Fabio Fognini stuns the tennis world after winning the Master ATP1000 in Monte Carlo.
Ranked no.18, the Italian was having one of the worst seasons of his career. Before Monte Carlo, Fognini had a horrible 4-8 win-loss record and he was defeated in all the 4 matches that he played on clay in Cordoba, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, and Marrakech.
However, the Italian managed to turn the table rather spectacularly in Monte Carlo after beating Zverev in 7-6 (6) 6-1 and the great Rafael Nadal 6-4 6-2. The Italian was always in full control of the final against Lajovic to win 6-3 6-4 in 1 hour and 38 minutes.
With this win, Fabio is the first Italian to win a Master ATP1000, and from next week he will be ranked no.12, and that will be his career high.
