Why Federer may play in Rome

ATP Rome. There are still chances that Federer will play in Italy

Federer back in Rome?

Roger Federer has finally decided to compete during the clay court season after 3 years.

The Swiss legend will come back in Madrid where he has his best chances to win the tournament since the event is playing in altitude. In fact, the 20-time grand slam champion has already conquered in the Spain capital in 2006, 2009, and 2012 (on blue clay). Federer didn’t plan to compete in any other tournaments on clay before the French Open, but there are chances that he will change idea to play in Rome.

Why Federer may decide to compete in Rome.

The Internazionali di Italia will be played 1 week after Madrid and 2 weeks before the Roland Garros. Therefore, according to Federer’s coach Ivan Ljubicic, there are still chances to see Roger competing in Rome. Ivan commented

“The plan is Madrid for now. As for Rome, it depends on what happens in Madrid. We will start training again on Monday. We will go to Madrid on Friday, May 3, not too early because we have the altitude in Switzerland.”

Probably Roger will decide to play in Rome if his body will react nicely in Spain and he will feel confident to give it a go.
