Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic will play a Masters 1000 final for the first time. He defeated Daniil Medvedev of Russia 7-5 6-1 to reach the finals. Lajovic managed to win 10 games in a row to beat Medvedev in the first set 7-5. By entering the finals, Dusan Lajovic has become the lowest ranked Monte Carlo finalist in 18 years. Lajovic defeated 3 seeded players, no.4 seed Dominic Thiem 6-3 6-3, no. 10 seed Medvedev 7-5 6-1 and no. 6 David Goffin 6-3 6-4 in his way to the finals.
Fabio Fognini
The Italian pulled off a big upset when he ended Nadal’s bid for a 12th Monte Carlo Championship title and that too in straight sets 6-4 6-2. This was only the 4th time that Fognini has won against Nadal in 15 encounters. To reach the finals, Fognini beat Andrey Rublev 4-6 7-5 6-4 in the first round. He got a walkover against Gilles Simon in the second round then he beat Sascha Zverev 7-6 6-1 and Borna Coric 6-1 3-6 2-6 to set his semifinal challenge against second seed Rafael Nadal.

Both Lajovic and Fabio Fognini are seeking their first ATP Masters 1000 title. Fognini is on a high after defeating the favourites Rafael Nadal in straight sets 6-4 6-2. Lajovic, on the other hand, has not lost a set this week and may go on to win his first ever Monte Carlo Masters championship. Lajovic and Fognini have not faced each other so it’s going to be interesting to watch how they play against each other in the biggest match of their careers.
