As Caroline Wozniacki competes in her first Grand Slam match since coming out of retirement, Coco Gauff expresses her delight in the contest.

Coco Gauff Vs. Caroline Wozniacki

Coco Gauff expressed her excitement over the matchup with Caroline Wozniacki playing in her first Grand Slam event since coming out of retirement. Gauff was aware that the former world number one would be quite familiar with her game because she had spent years observing her from the sidelines. Serena Williams, Wozniacki’s close friend, has been rooting the 33-year-old on from home, so the pair can also rely on one other for support.

Gauff will take on Grand Slam champion Wozniacki on Sunday in an interesting matchup for a position in the US Open quarterfinal.

Three and a half years, Wozniacki returned to tennis last month after retiring during the Australian Open in 2020.

Gauff shared her thoughts on the upcoming match: “I don’t think she’s going to give me anything. She’s obviously one of those players who was a great mover when she played. She got a lot of balls back, so I’m expecting long rallies.”

She further added her remarks about Wozniacki: “Also I’ve watched her last couple of matches this week. I think she’s playing a little bit more aggressively I guess compared to when she was starting before she won Australia. I think she played that tournament really well. Yeah, it’s going to be interesting. I never thought I would ever be in this position, especially after she retired and came back. Yeah, it’s not going to be an easy match-up.”
