Pepe Imaz is a controversial figure that appears now and then in Novak Djokovic‘s player’s box and every time he is there the Serbian is in trouble. Many think that Imaz is Novak’s main problem.
Who is Pepe Imaz and his relationship with Djokovic?
Pepe Imaz is a Spanish “love guru” that runs an academy in Marbella, and he preaches the philosophy of Amor Y Paz (Love and Peace). According to many, Pepe Imaz was the deciding factor for Djokovic’s incredible downturn that started soon after he won the French Open in 2016. The world no.1 looked to be more “interested” to preaching love than winning matches and losing his trademark grit cost him 2 years of his career.
When The Serbian decided to partner with Imaz (Wimbledon 2016), Becker decided to quit their great partnership because of the association with the Spaniard. Eventually, Nole ended up firing all his coaching team in April 2017 to make things even worse.
After so much tribulation, Nole hired and fired Radek Stepanek as his coach and then he re-hired his previous coaching team back in April 2018 and on request of Marian Vajda (his historical coach), Djokovic parted ways professionally with Imaz that remained his friend . That was the moment that Djokovic went back to Serbinator mode to win 3 consecutive slams and regain the world no.1 status.
Unfortunately, Nole was completely flat in his tennis after winning the Australian Open early this year. Recently, it was impossible not to notice that as soon as Pepe Imaz was back in Nole’s box in Monte Carlo, things went from bad to worse again for the world no.1 that played a horrible tournament (for his stellar standards) to lose in the quarters to Medvedev.
Social Media doesn’t appreciate the presence of Pepe Imaz.
This Pepe Imaz guy used to be a tennis player himself (highest ranking 167) & later turned to coaching. While I’ve heard of “long hugs” or just hugs as a way some spiritual gurus make ppl feel better, never heard of it in connection to sport. Wonder how it works… pic.twitter.com/M6fGQsRvNX

Look at the history. 2016- April 2018 Pepe Imaz worked with Nole and he hardly won anything. They split and he wins 3 majors in a row. He’s back in the box and Nole’s playing terribly. One can only deduce that Pepe is a negative influence. But yeah be blind.
