STUTTGART. Injured Sharapova joins Collins, Stephens, Svitolina in not playing in Germany

WTA Stuttgart. The tournament is hit by many illustrious withdrawals

Sharapova

Tough luck for the organization of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix as Maria Sharapova joined some other top players in not competing next week.

Maria Sharapova’s injury

The Russian has been struggling with her right shoulder for the past 10 years; at the beginning of this season, she had to undergo a small procedure to skip the entire Sunshine Double. Maria was expected to get back in Stuttgart where she won the title in 2012, 2013, and 2014, but unfortunately she is not ready yet, and she will also skip Madrid.

The Statement

Maria released the following statement

“To all my amazing fans in Germany that travel to see me play my favourite tournament in Stuttgart every year, I am really sorry to inform you that I have just ran out of time to be ready to play in Stuttgart.

I am making very good progress but just not ready to compete at the highest level.”

The other players out from Stuttgart

Unfortunately, Maria is not the only player to skip Stuttgart since the local fans will also miss Sloane Stephens, Danielle Collins, Dominika Cibulkova, and Elina Svitolina.

The tournament will kick start next week, and the defending champion is Karolina Pliskova that last year defeated Coco Vandeweghe in the final 7-6 (2) 6-4.
