Halep demolished by world no.70 Lucic-Baroni!

We didn’t see that coming!

Simona Halep, the 2014 French Open finalist, was widely considered as one of the favorites for the title, but her run stopped in the 2nd round.

The Romanian played an incredible Lucic-Baroni that displayed an unbelievable tennis to win 7-5 6-1. The interesting part of this match was that Simona did play badly; it was just Mirjana that was playing at an amazing level to blast fierce shots and winners from all over the place.

Lucic-Baroni: It’s incredible

The Croatian commented “It’s incredible. Simona is such a great champion, and I respect her so much, and to play this well on such a big stadium makes me so happy.

She’s such a great champion so I knew if I wanted to win I had to go for my shots, and that’s my game anyway, so I just tried to keep going for it and tried to keep my unforced errors down, as well. I’m so proud of myself – it’s such a huge win for me, it’s just amazing!”

Halep: She played well

Simona commented “She played well. I couldn’t play my best today, but she started to hit the ball very strong at the beginning of the match, and she was better than me today. I just have to go forward.”

Next vs. Cornet

Mirjana will play home favorite Alize Cornet. Head to head is 1-0 for Alize.
