Why Djokovic wasn’t happy with his tennis in Monte Carlo opener

Novak Djokovic survived Philipp Kohlschreiber in 3 sets and he wasn't happy with that.

Monte Carlo. Novak Djokovic won his opening match in Monaco, but that wasn’t a walk in the park.

The world no.1 looked rusty against Philipp Kohlschreiber that defeated him in the 3rd round in Indian Wells in March. The Serbian looked completely out of confidence and extremely nervous on court. He destroyed a racket, and he was complaining a lot when playing a tennis that was rather far from his best. However, eventually Nole found the solution to win 6-3 4-6 6-4.

I had to be more aggressive. DJOKOVIC

The world no.1 wasn’t happy at all with his performance to comment

“I had ups and downs and in a way felt a bit rusty on the court. I had a tough opponent, of course. Philipp beat me in Indian Wells. It was a match that happened less than a month ago, so of course it was in the back of my mind a bit.

I thought I should have maybe stepped in and played a bit more aggressive in the second set, but credit to him for mixing up the pace and playing well.

“I’ll take this win. Hopefully, I can play slightly better in the next round, because if I want to go deep in the tournament, I definitely have to up my game.”

Nole will face either Taylor Fritz or (most probably) Diego Schwartzman in the 3rd round.
