Dominic admits that some of the most interesting players of the new generation is much more precocious than him

Dominic Thiem is about to start his clay-court season in Monte Carlo strong of his recent success in Indian Wells where he won the title after defeating an in-form Roger Federer in the final.

During a recent interview in the Principality, the Austrian drew a comparison with the current “nextgen” to admit that some of its top players are quite precocious to say

“[Stefanos Tsitsipas, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Denis Shapovalov] are so good already. They are already the Top 20, Top 30. When I was 18, I was ranked No. 700 or something.

I think time changed again. When I broke into the Top 100, I was the 2nd youngest guy there.”

Thiem about his new coach Nicolas Massu

Then Dominic talked about his new coach, the former world no.9 Nicolas Massu, to comment

“I started a relationship with Nico in Rio and Buenos Aires, and then, of course, I did great practice with him before Indian Wells where I achieved this title.

I was thinking it was a great relationship with him and he can add many good things to my game. He grew up on clay; it was his favorite surface. So I expect good things to happen in this relationship, on this surface and in this period of the year.”
