Karin Knapp wins the “Italian challenge” against her compatriot and friend Roberta Vinci.
The crucial part of the match was the first set as Roberta squandered a 5-2 lead and she wasn’t even able to convert 2 sets points when she was leading 5-3. Eventually Knapp won the opener at the tie-break (at 5). Roberta managed to win the second set, but then she imploded in the decider with Knapp winning the match 7-6 (5) 4-6 6-1. Match Stats.
Knapp: I am very happy
This is Karin’s 2nd career title after winning Tashkent last year “I’m really, really happy to win the title. It’s never easy against Roberta, and as you saw it was a close match. But it’s great to get the win and gain some good confidence for the French Open.”
Karin will now go to Paris where she will face Caroline Wozniacki in the first round. Being confident may not be enough against the Dane!
