Monte Carlo. Felix Auger Aliassime is the “next-gen of the moment.”
The 18-year-old is having an outstanding season so far following some deep runs in Rio de Janeiro where he was the runner-up and Miami where he reached the semifinal. Felix is currently ranked no.33, but he is no.12 in the Year to Date rankings.
As per Felix’ words, the Canadian can play well on both hard and clay courts, and he is looking forward to starting the season on the dirt.
Felix and Monte Carlo
The Canadian has a special relationship with Monte Carlo where he decided to elect his residence. In addition, Felix received a wild card to the main draw in 2018 and also this year.
Auger Aliassime draw in Monte Carlo
Felix has an interesting draw in the Principality. He will face a qualifier in the 1st round to then possibly having a blockbuster clash against Alexander Zverev in the second round (and he has a shot at him). There is no head to head record between them since they have never played each other.
If successful, Felix will probably play Fabio Fognini, Kei Nishikori, and Rafael Nadal in the semifinal.
Here the projected path
R1 – Qualifier
R2 – Zverev
R3 – Fognini
1/4 – Nishikori
1/2 – Nadal
Last year in Monte Carlo, Felix lost in the first round in 3 sets to Mischa Zverev. The result was 6-2 6-7 (4) 6-1.
