Exactly five weeks after the Spaniard defeated Djokovic in five sets in their Wimbledon final, Alcaraz and Djokovic engaged in another thrilling match. After struggling in the early stages of the match, the Serb prevailed this time. When he trailed by a set and a break, Djokovic looked beaten but managed to force a decider.

Alcaraz saved four match points and broke Djokovic, who was serving for the match at the time. Alcaraz eventually lost 7-4 in the tiebreaker for the last set, and when he sat at his bench and cried into his towel, he was heartbroken.

The two-time Slam winner broke down in tears once more as he praised Djokovic and thanked his teammates during his runner-up statement. Alcaraz said during his speech: “It’s going to be tough for me to talk right now but I’ll try to do my best. First of all, I want to congratulate Novak once again.”
