Has Andy Murray added a new meaning to being a feminist?
1 year ago the Scott has surprised everybody when he hired a female coach (and that proved to be a good idea) . When Andy announced his partnership with Amelie Mauresmo he had to face many weird comments, but again he is not regretting at all his choice. Murray had to adapt to the new coach to initially struggle with his results (actually he was also recovering from a back injury). That was in 2014 as this year it’s an entirely new story as Murray is now no.2 in 2015 rankings after winning 2 tournaments and reaching the finals in Melbourne and Miami.
Murray: you can call me a feminist
The world no.3 commented “I’m pro everyone being equal and if that’s being a feminist then you could say so, yes. It really opened my eyes when I started working with Amelie. Inequality is something I started to see and become passionate about. It’s opened my mind.
I’ve actually become very passionate about getting more women in sport, giving women more opportunities. When you get five or six men sitting at a table in a competitive environment, it’s not pleasant. I’ve found it difficult to open up sometimes as you feel judged or that it’s seen as a sign of weakness.”
Murray is now preparing for the French Open here he should be seeded no.3
