
In their third meeting this year, on a third different court surface, Novak Djokovic prevailed against Carlos Alcaraz, winning 2-1 in matches and the Western & Southern Open final on Sunday.
Due to COVID-19 limitations, Djokovic was competing in his first competition on American soil in two years. On his fifth match point, when Alcaraz missed his forehand return on his fifth match point, he won his third Cincinnati championship in six years.
Djokovic expressed his thoughts after the title win and said: “This was one of the most exciting matches I’ve ever played in any tournament. It felt like a Grand Slam.”
After the match, Alcaraz stated some strong remarks and said: “One of the toughest matches I’ve ever played in my life, regardless of what level, what category, what player.”
After winning the Cincinnati, Djokovic celebrated in a wild and dramatic manner, tearing off his shirt and roaring with excitement.

Ranked world no.2, Novak played his last match on the 20th of August when he overcame world no.1 Carlos Alcaraz 5-7 7-6(7) 7-6(4) in the final in Cincinnati to win his 94th career title.
At present, during this year Djokovic has managed to achieve a 38-5 win-loss record. Djokovic clinched 4 titles in 2023 in Adelaide, Australian Open, French Open and Cincinnati. The Serbian was the runner-up in Wimbledon.
Djokovic will play next at the U.S. Open (U.S. Open). He will start from the main draw that will commence on the 28th of August.
