Kokkinakis wins 1st challenger

Thanasi Kokkinakis is doing everything he can to follow the footsteps of his dear friend Nick Kyrgios. The young Australian (still 19) wins his first ATP title in Bordeaux. We are not talking about a major ATP tournament, but this may help to improve his confidence.

Thanasi won the Challenger after beating ThiemoDe Bakker 6-4 1-6 7-6 (5) and coming straight from the qualifications. After this win Thanasi gains 15 places in the ATP rankings to be the new world no. 83.

Another important thing for Kokkinakis us that after this title he is sure he will be included in the main draw at the Roland Garros and In Wimbledon.

Kokkinakis: It feels great

After the win Thanasi commented “It feels great to win my first title, especially after the circumstances with Rome. I knew I had to make at least the quarters to make the cut for Wimbledon too, so I’m happy.”
