“It was a really tough match,” Carlos Alcaraz reacts to beating Tommy Paul in Cincinnati

Tommy Paul once again proved to be a difficult opponent for the World No. 1 just seven days after Paul's victory against Alcaraz in the Toronto quarterfinals.

Carlos Alcaraz Beats Tommy Paul

In a thrilling third-round match at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati on Thursday, Carlos Alcaraz defeated Tommy Paul 7-6(6), 6-7(0), 6-3 to add another exciting chapter to their growing rivalry. Carlitos failed to convert 3 match points in the opening set to remain focused and win the encounter after more than 3 hours.

Just seven days after Paul defeated Alcaraz in the Toronto quarterfinals, Tommy confronted the No. 1 player with another tough challenge.

Alcaraz spoke after the match: “It was a really tough match. We were playing a really close match before the rain came. But I think I did pretty well in the gym, warming up.”

Alcaraz further expressed his thoughts after the win and said: “I told everyone that I really wanted since I lost in Toronto. I came here in Cincinnati and I’m really happy with the level. I think I’m getting better and better. I’m really happy to be in the quarter-finals here.”
