Spanish tennis has been extremely prolific for the last 15-20 years not only because of the likes of Rafael Nadal or David Ferrer but also because of the successes of other players such as Nicolas Almagro.
At 33 years of age, the Spaniard decided to retire after a fantastic career. Almagro was a clay court specialist that had all his deep runs on the dirt. On clay, he won 13 titles, and he was the runner-up on 10 occasions. Almagro broke in the top10 the 2nd of May 2011 (ranked no.9).
Almagro’s retirement doesn’t come as a surprise as already 2 years ago he declared that his “new priority” was his son.
Time to move on with his nice family.
