Carlos Alcaraz beat Jordan Thompson 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in the Western & Southern Open opener to record his 50th victory of the year in a personal best performance.
Alcaraz didn’t recover from his drained performance in the first set, which featured 26 unforced errors, and maintained it into the third set, which got underway shortly before 12:30 a.m. Alcaraz failed to convert four break points on either side of the break and required a ninth break point in the eighth game of the first set to finally break through.
Alcaraz had extremely quick court coverage and defended some incredible serves in his match with Thompson. After being defeated in the opening sets, his movement on the court was quite swift, and he later got very quick to win the match.
ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS 😱
