Madison Keys wins the title in Charleston

Charleston. Madison Keys wins the VOLVO CAR OPEN title coming practically from nowhere after a remarkable week.

Before this event in South Carolina, the American was having a rather flat and disappointing season for her standards to register a 3-all win-loss record in 2019 after crashing out in the opening matches in Indian Wells and Miami.

Eventually, Madison shined in Charleston where she beat the likes of Sloane Stephens, an in-form Monica Puig, and Caroline Wozniacki in the final after winning 7-6 (5) 6-3 in 1 hour and 46 minutes.

It means a lot to me. KEYS

During the press conference following the final, Madison commented

“It means so much. I’ve always loved Charleston. It’s always been one of my favorite tournaments, so to now be able to say that I’ve won the tournament and be on the trophy is really, really special.

It’s definitely been a really great week for me, especially after having some really tough losses in the last couple of weeks. And to be able to really bounce back and have a really good week of training with my coach, Nacho, and then be able to come and win the tournament, it definitely is a very good springboard for heading over to Europe.”

Madison Keys’ titles

This is Madison’s 4th career title after Eastbourne (2014), Birmingham (2016), and Stanford (2017). After this week, the American will go 4 places up in the rankings to be the new world no.14.

That’s a very good way to “fix” a season that didn’t start so well.
