Why Roger Federer will beat Jimmy Connors record. ROD LAVER

The tennis legend is sure that Roger Federer can break Jimmy Connors' 109 titles record

Rod Laver and Roger Federer

Roger Federer is adored by millions around the world, but there is one fan that is pretty special: Rod Laver.

The Australian is in fantastic terms with Roger and a great supporter of the Swiss that was also the biggest promoter (and stakeholder) of the Laver Cup.

Federer has just conquered 101 titles in Miami, and it seems that the “last” record that will be significant for him to break is Jimmy Connors’ 109 title.

At 37 years of age, Federer is the only player on tour that has conquered 2 titles in 2019 (Dubai and Miami), and he is also leading the Year to Date rankings. This confirms that the Swiss is still at the top of the game and if he can have a couple of good seasons, he can overtake the great Connors.

Why Rod Laver thinks that Federer can really break Connors’s record

During a recent interview, Rod commented “Can Roger Federer beat Jimmy Connors’ career titles record? Absolutely! He is closing in. Miami victory is a real incentive.

Federer will play a couple of tournaments on clay (Madrid and the French Open) before playing on grass where he is the hot favorite to win Stuttgart, Halle, and Wimbledon. If he can win a couple of these events he will be even closer to the American.
