After being unexpectedly defeated by American Tommy Paul in the Canadian Open quarterfinals on Friday, world number one Carlos Alcaraz stated he needed to have greater faith in his abilities. He plans to address any shortcomings in Cincinnati the following week.
Carlos Alcaraz got more and more famous after his historic win at Wimbledon beating Novak Djokovic and clinching the Grand Slam. But his start at Toronto was a bit slow and he got beaten by Tommy Paul in the first set. Alcaraz was frustrated by the loss but he kept on believing in his skills and appreciated Paul for the win.
After the match, Alcaraz was happy for the supporting crowd and thanked all for the lovely environment and support. He said: “Thank you Toronto for the support this week! I loved playing here! Last night it was not to be! Congratulations Tommy Paul for the win! Time to think about Cincinnati.”

WWWWWWWWLW Now ranked no.1, the Spaniard played his last match on the 11th of August when he capitulated to world no.14 Tommy Paul 6-3 4-6 6-3 in the quarter in Toronto (draw).
Until now, during this year Alcaraz owns a compiled 49-5 match record. The Spaniard clinched 6 titles in 2023 in Buenos Aires, Indian Wells, Barcelona, Madrid, London and Wimbledon. Alcaraz was the finalist in Rio de Janeiro.
He is also scheduled to play at the U.S. Open (U.S. Open) after Cincinnati. The main draw will start on the 13th of August.
