Good and bad news for the local fans in Charleston after 3 Americans reached the Volvo Car Open quarters.
The good news is that since Sloane Stephens, Madison Keys, and Danielle Collins reached the final 8 in South Carolina, and they are in the same quarters, it is extremely plausible that there will be an American player in the final (unless Monica Puig, the “last” competitor in the quarter spoils the party).
The bad news is that since there is no American player on the other side of the draw, the local fans will have an all-American final.

Seeded no.1 in Charleston, the American has been struggling a lot for the last few months to have decent runs. However, Sloane is well-known for having the ability to suddenly switch on and win tournaments when she is not expected to do that.
Sloane doesn’t seem to be in great form also at the VOLVO CAR OPEN. However, she has managed to reach the quarters after beating Sara Sorriber Tormo 7-6 (4) 7-6 (4) after a huge battle, and Ajla Tomljanovic 4-6 6-4 6-4 after she recovered from a 4-6 0-3 scoreline.

Ranked no.18, the American was seeded no.8 in South Carolina. Madison reached the VOLVO CAR OPEN quarters after beating Tatjana Maria 7-6 (5) 4-6 6-4 and Jelena Ostapenko 7-5 6-2.
Madison has been struggling a bit in 2019. After reaching the 4th round at the Australian Open, she crashed out in her opening matches in both Indian Wells and Miami.
Danielle Collins’ run in Charleston
Danielle is probably the most in-form American in this tournament after she got to the last 8 without dropping a single set. The 25-year-old defeated Madison Brengle 6-1 6-3, Aliona Bolsova 6-3 7-6 (2), and Kaia Kanepi 7-6 (1) 6-1.
