Nearly two years ago, ATP Tour interviewed Andy Murray on the upcoming tennis stars. According to the Pepperstone ATP Rankings, who would be the next new World No. 1?

Murray stated these remarks and said: “From the young, young ones, I think [Carlos] Alcaraz is really, really good. I think he’s got a good chance at it.”

Alcaraz’s exciting, spectacular victory at the U.S. Open the previous year served as a warning that a unique talent was about to upset the men’s tennis world.
As Murray predicted, On July 16, in one of the best matches ever played at Wimbledon, Carlos Alcaraz upset Novak Djokovic to win the Wimbledon men’s tournament and prevent the Serbian from winning the tournament for a record fifth time in a row.
The 20-year-old Alcaraz thus ends one of tennis’ finest periods of supremacy. Since 2002, Alcaraz has won the Wimbledon men’s singles title, becoming the first non-member of the sport’s “big four”—Djokovic, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Andy Murray—to accomplish so.
