Caroline Wozniacki, a former world number one, was overjoyed to triumph in her WTA Tour comeback match on Tuesday after 3 years. Kimberly Birrell, an Australian qualifier, was defeated by Wozniacki in Montreal 6-2, 6-2.
When she cruised to victory, she barely displayed any symptoms of rust, much to the surprise of her followers. Wozniacki acknowledged that the encounter had left her feeling a little worn out.
Wozniacki said post-match press conference: “I’m happy. A little tired. Just it was fun to be out there again playing on center court in front of a big crowd. I’m just thrilled that I could win my first match in three and a half years.”
In her upcoming match, Wozniacki will take on Marketa Vondrousova, the most recent Grand Slam champion (Wimbledon), and she is aware that this will be a significant step up.
