Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova reach the semifinals in Madrid.
Serena
The world no.1 defeated home favorite Carla Suarez Navarro in straight sets ( 6-1 6-3).It took just 71 minutes for the American that was always in full control of the match to win 68 points vs. Carla’s 49. Serena will play either Kvitova or Begu in the final 4.
Sharapova
Maria had a much more tricky task to beat former world n.1 Caroline Wozniacki 6-1 3-6 6-3 in 2 hours.
After the match Maria commented “I think I became a little bit more aggressive at the end. I was so far back for a long period of time after winning the first set. I definitely thought that was an improvement, something I started doing better in the third. And opening up the court a little bit more and then moving forward. I was staying too far back and letting her get in the rallies, which she’s really good at.”
Sharapova will play either Kutznetsova or Safarova in the semifinal.
At this point it is rather plausible to see a final between Serena and Maria… once again!
