VOLVO CAR OPEN. Sloane Stephens and Danielle Collins win their opener in Charleston after straight-sets wins.
Sloane Stephens’ opening match
The seed no.1 didn’t seem to be at her very best. The American is having a below-par season so far with no significant runs with the exception of the Australian Open where she reached the 4th round. However, the world no.8 managed to battle hard against the crafty Sara Sorriber Tormo (world no.78) to win a tight match 7-6 (4) 7-6 (4) after a marathon that lasted 2 hours and 37 minutes.
Sloane will face either Ajla Tomljanovic or Tamara Zidansek in the 2nd round.

Danielle Collins’ 1st round

In the second round, Danielle will clash against the world 147 Aliona Bolsova Zadoinov. There is no head to head record since this will be the first match between them.
Amanda Anisimova lost to Martic
The 17-year-old was defeated by the seed no.16 Petra Martic 6-4 2-6 6-1 after the Croatian took full advantage of the slow condition in Charleston using low slices that upset the rhythm of the young American.
