Petros Tsitsipas talks about being Stefanos' brother and what that means for his tennis

Petros Tsitsipas interview

Last January Stefanos Tsitsipas hit the headlines around the world after reaching the semifinals at the Australian Open after he defeated his childhood idol Roger Federer in the 4th round.

Later on, the Greek sensation was in the limelight also for breaking in the top10 (now he is ranked no.8). That’s great if you are his father or coach, but how does it he feel for a younger brother that is also trying to become a pro player?

Tsitsipas has the luxury of being coached by his father Apostolos, and for the first part of the season, he also had the company of his young brother Petros (18) that has the aspiration of being a pro player.

During a recent interview, Petros talked about being Stefanos’ brother and also being part of his team

“I was part of the team for 4 and a half months. It was great; he [Stefanos] did incredible results. To see this life with him in the team, it was a great feeling, and I hope he does even better.”

Then Petros commented that it wasn’t a hard choice to halt his career for these months

“No [it wasn’t hard], he is my brother; I love him. If he needs any help, I am always there for him. During the last 4 and a half months, I have learned a lot. It was an amazing experience. Of course, after it is tough for the matches because you do not play a lot of matches for yourself, but I am going to find the way, for sure.”

About being labeled as the brother of Stefanos Tsitsipas, Petros said that it is not tough for him

“No, to tell you the truth. I feel like an individual person. I do not feel that I am the brother of Stefanos Tsitsipas. For sure, everybody sees it like this, but I don’t.

When I go out of the court, I think about myself. I think what I can do, and I try to enjoy as much as I can.”

That’s a great approach!
