WTA Rankings. Naomi Osaksa stays world no.1 Simona Halep no.2

Naomi Osaka is still leading the rankings, but it's time to go for more.

Naomi Osaka world no.1

Great news for Naomi Osaka after it is confirmed that the Japanese retains the world no.1.

Osaka had a rather below-par run at the Sunshine Double after she reached only the 4th round in Indian Wells and the 3rd round in Miami. However, her opponents didn’t get the chance to dethrone her from the top spot of the rankings (at last for now).

Simona Halep and Petra Kvitova had to reach “just” the final at the Miami Open to be the new world no.1, but they couldn’t make it. Actually, the Romanian was extremely close to it after she was leading Karolina Pliskova 5-3 in the semifinal before losing 7-5 6-1.

Simona Halep world no.2

Even if the Romanian stumbled at the last hurdle, Simona managed to overtake Petra Kvitova to be the new world no.2. She will have lots of points to defend during the clay court season since last year she was the runner-up in Rome and the winner of the French Open, but this is a nice place to be.
