At the ongoing Citi Open, Coco Gauff and Belinda Bencic faced each other in the quarterfinal. Despite being uneven, the match was rather exciting and Gauff won easily. The play was halted for a while when a spectator in the crowd became upset.
The situation was managed by the paramedics, and the play quickly continued. After the match was over, Gauff asked about the supporter. In her on-court interview, she completely stole the show, particularly while discussing the fan incident. Gauff has always performed well in on-court interviews, but this one was very exceptional.
Gauff then talked about her match with Bencic and then turned to the interruption during the match. She was quite concerned about the fan and said: “I was making sure that it wasn’t something cardiac. I just took a CPR class, so if they needed me to jump in I was ready I have my certification. But yeah, everybody in the crowd should take the class. It only took 90 minutes.”
She did a great job of encouraging the public to register for a CPR course. You never know how anything might end up saving a life. In the press conference following the game, the World No. 7 added more commentary on this subject.
Coco Gauff on the fan that fell ill during her match against Bencic:
“I just took a CPR class so if they needed me to jump in I was ready 😂 I have my certification.”
