Halep, Bouchard and Venus crash out in Madrid!

Not a moment of glory for 3 top players in Madrid.

Halep

World no.2 Simona Halep was having a good run in the first set against Alize Cornet to lead her 5-5 (1 break up). It seems that the Romanian had the upper hand, but she disappeared after squandering 2 set points in the first set. Eventually Cornet won 7-6 (6) 6-3. Match Stats.

Bouchard

This is a horrible year for Genie Bouchard. The young Canadian has lost a lot in terms of popularity after a questionable behaviour and now she loses her 4th consecutive match against Strycova in the opener. The worst part of it is that Genie won the opening set with a bang (6-0) to then lose 0-6 6-3 6-3. Disappointing. Match Stats.

Venus

Venus Williams crashed out in the opener… but for a “reason”! The American was so unlucky to play Vika Azarenka in the opener (the Belarusian is coming back after a 2014 plagued with injuries). Eventually Vika won a 6-3 7-5 fight. Match Stats
