Roger Federer gives a tennis lesson to the upcoming Denis Shapovalov in the Miami Open semifinal.
How Federer beat Shapovalov
Denis Shapovalov was excited to face his childhood hero, probably too excited. The entertaining Canadian looked blocked by his emotions especially in the first part of the match when there was a considerable contrast between the Swiss that was utterly at ease and Denis that had too many things in his mind.
After holding a gigantic first service game in 11 minutes, Denis lost the following 5 games 1-5 before Federer conquered the opener 6-2. With the exception of the second game when Federer had to save 2 consecutive break points, there was not too much thrill for Denis. After Federer broke Shapovalov for the 3rd time in the match in the 3rd game (2-1), the contest was virtually over. The Swiss conceded just 1 point in his following 4 service games
before winning the encounter 6-2 6-4 in only 72 minutes. H2H Roger Federer vs. John Isner
Roger will face John Isner for the Miami Open title. The head to head is 5-2 for Roger that leads 4-0 on outdoor hard courts. The last time they played, it was the American to win in the 3rd round in Bercy. The favorite to win the title is the Swiss, but as per Federer’s considerations, this will be a sort of shoot-out.
This will be Federer’s 50th ATP1000 final.
