Roger Federer has just ended his successful quarter-final at the Miami Open, and his mind is already focussed on his next opponent: Denis Shapovalov.
The 19-year-old from Canada reached his 3rd Master ATP1000 semifinal at the Miami Open after he got to the final 4 in 2017 at the Rogers Cup and in 2018 in Madrid.
Denis reached the semifinal at the Miami Open after beating Daniel Evans, Andrey Rublev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Frances Tiafoe.
I am happy for Shapovalov and Auger Aliassime. FEDERER
During the on-court interview that followed his quarterfinal against Kevin Anderson, Federer commented
“He [Shapovalov] is a great talent. I like him a lot too. He’s a great shot-maker and a nice guy on top of it. I am really happy for him and also for Felix [Auger Aliassime] for making such a run here in Miami.
I can’t wait to play against him. I’ve practiced with him some and I’ve been highly impressed.
I saw his match against Rafa [Nadal at the 2017 Rogers Cup] when he crashed forehand after forehand winner down the line. That was impressive.
So he’s got another run going here, and it’s gonna be hard to stop him.”
There is no head to head record between Federer and Shapovalov since this will be the first time that they will face each other.
