At 19 years of age, Denis Shapovalov has already accomplished so much in his young career. The Canadian has just reached his 3rd ATP1000 semifinal, and he has already the honor to lock horns with the very best.
Back in 2017, when he was just 17, he defeated the likes of Juan Martin Del Potro and Rafael Nadal and this week he claimed the scalp of another top10 player: Stefanos Tsitsipas. Now it is time to take on the great Roger Federer.
Why Denis Shapovalov is so happy to play vs.Roger Federer
Soon after defeating his dear friend Frances Tiafoe, Denis revealed how glad he is to play his childhood idol in such an important event. Shapovalov commented
“It’s definitely a matchup I have been looking forward to my whole life. It’s going to be a dream come true to play him in such a big event. The stakes are so high, the semi-final of a Masters 1000 against your idol; it’s just a dream come true.”
As Denis said, this will be the first time that they play each other and therefore there is no head to head record between him and Roger Federer.
