Denis Shapovalov impresses again after reaching his 3rd Master ATP1000 semifinal at the Miami Open after he defeats his dear friend Frances Tiafoe in 3 sets.
How Shapovalov defeated Tiafoe
Denis had to dig deep against the American in what was a “very viewable match.” Denis and Frances battled hard in the 1st set, and it was only a couple of points in the breaker to decide the outcome in favor of the American.
However, that was the end of it for Tiafoe. Shapovalov conquered a fast 5-1 lead in the second set before winning 6-4. Frances seemed to be unable to offer a proper opposition in the 3rd set, and it was Denis to win 6-7 (5) 6-4 6-2.
Joining Felix Auger Aliassime in the semifinal
After this win, Denis will join his good friend Felix Auger Aliassime in the Miami Open semifinal. However, Felix is on the other side of the draw where he will face the defending champion, John Isner.
Head to head Roger Federer vs. Denis Shapovalov
Denis will face his childhood hero Roger Federer in the semifinal. There is no head to head record between them since this will be the first time that they play each other.
