Ranked no.23, the 19-year-old from Canada was struggling to find continuity during the tournaments this year. Before this Miami Open, Denis didn’t manage to win more than 2 matches per event. Finally, Shapovalov broke the spell in Miami after he defeated Daniel Evans 4-6 6-1 6-3, Andrey Rublev 6-3 7-6 (5), and Stefanos Tsitsipas 4-6 6-3 7-6 (3). Denis was particularly impressive in the last 2 matches since he didn’t commit many unforced errors while keeping an extremely aggressive attitude.
France Tiafoe’s Miami Open
Ranked no.34, the American didn’t have a fantastic 2019 before Miami after he crashed out in the opening matches in Sydney, New York, Delray Beach, and Indian Wells. However, his beginning of the season was “saved” by his run in Melbourne where he reached the quarters before losing to Rafael Nadal.
Tiafoe is having another deep run in Miami where he already reached the 4th round last year. This year the American defeated Miomir Kecmanovic 7-6 (6) 7-6 (5), David Ferrer 5-7 6-3 6-3, and David Goffin 7-5 7-6(6).
