Felix Auger Aliassime reaches the quarters in Miami

The 18-year-old beats Basilashvili in straight sets to face Coric in the quarters

18-year-old Felix Auger Aliassime keeps on winning!

The young Canadian reaches the quarters in Miami after winning his 6th consecutive match in Florida against Nikoloz Basilashvili. Since the tournament uses the “old seeding, ” Felix had to start his run from the qualifications to beat Luca Vanni, Paolo Lorenzo, Casper Ruud, Marton Fucsovic, Hubert Hurkacz, and now Basilashvili.

The match

Nikoloz Basilashvili is one of the toughest customers that you can have in pro tennis. The Georgian is rock solid, and it’s always difficult to break his resistance. However, Felix was up to the challenge, and he impressed in the most crucial moment of the match at the end of the 1st set when Basilashvili broke the Canadian in the 11th game to go and serve for the set (6-5). That was the moment when Felix stepped up: the Canadian broke back the Georgian before winning the opener at the tiebreak.

Felix conquered a 2-0 lead at the beginning of the 2nd set, but Nikoloz managed to bridge the gap after breaking back in the 6th game (3-3). Similarly to the 1st set, Felix was quick in breaking back (4-3) before winning the match 7-6 (4) 6-4 in 1 hour and 56 minutes.

Felix will face Borna Coric for a place in the semifinal. There is no head to head record between them since this will be the first time that they will play each other.
