Even if 37-year-old Roger Federer is at the very end of his glorious career, he is always interested in the new generation.
Finally, it seems that the new players are ready to take over from the likes of Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic and there is a lot of curiosity about some new prospects.
During a recent interview with the Tennis Channels in occasion of the Miami Open, Roger explained why he likes Tsitsipas, Auger Aliassime, Shapovalov, and Medvedev.
Why Federer likes Stefanos Tsitsipas
Roger commented: “I must say I cannot count anybody out. There is really a great group; I really enjoy watching them now and also playing against them. Of course, Tsitsipas has impressed me by beating me at the Australian Open. I thought he played really tremendous tennis over 4 sets. He brought it at every single point, and that was impressive.”
Why Federer is impressed by Felix Auger Aliassime
Then he added: “Seeing what Felix Auger Aliassime was doing during the last couple of weeks has been unbelievable. He came to train with me in the off-season, so I know him quite well and to see him taking that next step is phenomenal.”
Federer also impressed by Daniil Medvedev
Talking about the Russian, Roger commented: “[I also like] Daniil Medvedev who I play in the next round. I played him twice last year in a tough match in Shanghai and then when he was very tired in Basel.”
… and about Shapovalov
Finally, talking about Denis, he added “Then I like the game of Shapovalov. He is a great shot maker. He can take the racket out of anybody’s hand, and I think he is a great player.”
