Nick Kyrgios underarm serve

Nick Kyrgios is recently hitting the headlines for many reasons; one of these is the underarm serve.

Kyrgios’ underarm serve against Nadal

The Australian was unfairly criticized by many for trying to use the underarm serve against Rafael Nadal during his heated match in Acapulco that Kyrgios won after some of his theatrics.

The Spaniard said that Nick was disrespectful against anyone (his opponent, the fans, and himself) and he didn’t look any happy for the underarm serve even if that ended up with an awkward double fault.

The criticism was completely unfair also because many were calling for an underarm serve against the King Of Clay since he usually returns quite far behind the baseline. Therefore, Nick had to be praised for having the gut of trying it.

Kyrgios’ underarm serve against Lajovic

Nick repeated himself at the Miami Open against Dusan Lajovic, but this time the Australian was extremely successful. The first time the underarm serve became an ace; Nick used this serve another time to convert a set point.

Why the underarm serve is a good tactic

Judy Murray had a valid point in “approving” Nick Kyrgios underarm serve saying

“The underarm serve [love].The whole point of tennis competition is to disrupt ur opponents game by applying pressure through changing the speed, spin, direction, depth or height of the ball. And that includes the serve. Kyrgios is a genius. I’m surprised more players don’t do it.
