Why Bianca Andreescu retired from the Miami Open

The amazing run of the Canadian ended against Kontaveit

Bianca Andreescu about retiring from the Miami Open

Bianca Andreescu was the player that captured the imagination of the tennis fans in Canada and around the world in March.

The 18-year-old impressed with her tennis in Indian Wells to win the title after beating back to back Garbine Muguruza, Elina Svitolina, and Angelique Kerber.

Bianca was not done with the title in the desert, and she tried to have another deep run also at the Miami Open where she staged a great comeback in the 1st round against Irina Begu, and she defeated (again) Angelique Kerber in the third round before being horribly accused by the German to be a “Drama Queen.”

Andreescu insulted by Kerber after an incredible win at the Miami Open

However, before facing Anett Kontaveit in the 4th round, Bianca already had 32 matches in the season, and her body was struggling, especially her right shoulder.

Eventually, Andreescu had to accept the inevitable and during her 4th round match against Anett Kontaveit she was forced to throw the towel when she was  1-6 0-2 down because of her right shoulder injury.

It’s not a serious injury. ANDREESCU

After the match, Bianca confirmed that her injury is not serious to comment

“I have played so many matches; I guess this is just a way of my body telling me that it’s had enough. It’s disappointing, but it’s part of the sport.”
