Great week for Anna Schmiedlova that wins her first career title in Katowice.
The 20-year-old from Slovakia had a solid performance against Camila Giorgi to concede just 7 games to the Italian.
After winning the first set, Anna had a great comeback in the second to recover a 1-3 deficit, win 6 consecutive games and finally win the match 6-4 6-3.
After the match she commented “I started out nervous today. I lost my serve straight off in the first game. But then it was better. I wasn’t nervous after that and was just taking it point by point. Usually I don’t like playing aggressive players like her as much, because I can’t play as aggressively as them and I feel like I’m always defending, but I did very well. It was maybe one of the best matches I’ve played.
“It’s something special. I still can’t believe it – it will take a long time for me to believe it.”
After this week Schmiedlova will be ranked no. 46 (career high). This is the third time that Giorgi loses a final (details)
