Awful stuff at the Miami Open where the 3-times slam champion Angelique Kerber wasn’t able to stomach losing to 18-year-old Bianca Andreescu.
Why Angelique Kerber got upset with Andreescu
The Canadian has been playing a lot of tennis recently especially after her fantastic run in Indian Wells. In Miami, Bianca had to clash against Angelique Kerber in what was her 10th match in 17 days, and her body was feeling it. Therefore, during their 3rd round match, Bianca had to call many medical time-outs to attend her problems.
The match had an intriguing scoreline. Bianca didn’t start well, but after being 0-2 down in the opening set, she won 10 of the following 12 games to lead 6-4 4-1. At that point, it was the German to strike back furiously and conquer the following 5 games to make things even (1-set all).
After a lengthy medical time-out in at the beginning of the 3 set, the Canadian stormed back in style to win the match 6-4 4-6 6-1 after 2 hours and 10 minutes.
As the microphones picked it up, Kerber called 18-year-old Andreescu “the biggest drama queen ever” after losing to her for the second time in a week…. #MiamiOpenpic.twitter.com/sMnzSlmEd1

The handshake between Andreescu and Kerber
Soon after the match, Angelique Kerber had an awful reaction and instead of congratulating her young opponent like a champion of her caliber is expected to do, during the handshake she told her “You’re the biggest drama queen ever.”
After the match, Bianca refused to comment on Kerber’s remarks to say “‘Kerber played good tennis, but I was just a step ahead with my angles, variety, and fighting spirit.’”
Andreescu won “only” in 3 sets against Kerber, but in terms of maturity, the 18-year-old defeated the 31-year-old and 3-times grand slam champion 6-0 6-0.

I had to listen 10 times (the German accent didn’t help) but…
Kerber at the net to Andreescu. “You are the biggest drama queen ever”. pic.twitter.com/ceJtUkGvRj

If it’s true that Angelique Kerber called Bianca Andreescu ‘the biggest drama-queen ever’ at the net, then I’d add from my vantage point commentating that the only drama- queen type behaviour I saw or heard was Kerber calling Andreescu ‘the biggest drama-queen ever’.

Meanwhile, needlessly shitty handshake from Kerber, ironically the one who looked like she needed to grow up there. #MiamiOpen

It’s incredible and she does it again.
Bianca Andreescu d. Angelique Kerber 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 to reach the last 16 in Miami. Her 10th consecutive win, finished at 1.29am local.
Angie didn’t have nice words for her at the net, it looked like…

Bianca Andreescu beat Angelique Kerber again.
Should have done it in two (4-1 up). Eventually did it 6-1 in 3rd.
Arsey handshake from Kerber. Andreescu in interview said ‘Kerber played good tennis but I was just a step ahead with my angles, variety and fighting spirit’. 👀
