Miami Open. The seed no.1Â Naomi Osaka loses a tough match in the 3rd round in Miami to Su-Wei Hsieh in 3 sets.
The contest
It’s well-known that Naomi doesn’t like playing against the Taiwanese because of her variations. The Japanese was close to defeat against Su-Wei in the 3rd round of the recent Australian Open when she was 5-7 1-4 down, but eventually she found the solution to win in 3 sets.
Naomi didn’t start well to face immediately a 0-3 deficit that became 1-4 after a couple of games. At that point, the world no.1 stormed back, and she conquered 8 of the following 9 games to grab a strong 6-4 3-1 lead. Later on, Naomi had the chance to serve out the match when leading 5-4. However, after she started well (30-0), she dropped the following 4 points everything started to become complicated for Naomi (5-5). Hsieh brought the affair to the breaker that she won at 4.
At the beginning of the 3 set, Naomi managed to regroup… Naomi’s style. And after she conquered a 2-0 lead, it seemed as she was destined to win the contest. However, Hsieh strongly disagreed with that, and after snatching 5 of the following 6 games, she won the contest 4-6 7-6 (4) 6-3.
Hsieh will play Caroline Wozniacki in the 3rd round while Naomi Osaka is sent packing. The Japanese has an unflattering 3-3 win loss-record after she parted ways with her former coach Sascha Baijin. Probably that wasn’t a great move.
A BIT LOST?
