The match
The American was widely expected to have a smooth ride in this contest. However, she didn’t start in the best possible way after she dropped her service game at the very beginning of the match (0-1). However, Serena managed to break back immediately (1-1) before winning the opener 6-3.
In the second set, Serena disappeared to lose 5 consecutive games and the set (from 1-1 to 1-6).
The American sensation regrouped at the beginning of the decider, and after snatching a 3-0 lead, she won the match 6-3 1-6 6-1 in 1 hour and 37 minutes.

After her win, Serena commented
“I could not lose this match. I knew that I could play a lot, lot, lot better. I just had to be better. That determination was, I cannot lose this match just really kicked in. ‘What do I need to do to win this match?’ ”
