Mari Osaka had the opportunity to play in the Miami Open main draw after the organization granted a wildcard.
The world no.338 was lucky enough to be scheduled to play against another wildcard, the 16-year-old Whitney Osuigwe. Unfortunately, the Japanese didn’t make it, and she lost the match in straight sets (6-2 6-4).
Mari Osaka about her sister Naomi
After the match, Mari was asked about Naomi’s revelation that the world no.1 wasn’t able to win a single match until she was 15. Mari commented
“I think she was older than 15 but ok. Sometimes I think she was throwing the matches on purpose just so that we could finish practice quicker.
So the moment she started trying, I was getting pissed off. I was, like, ‘Come on, do you want to get through this?’ Because we’d spend, like, hours on the court.”
Mari becoming emotional…
The Japanese became emotional when asked about a comparison between Naomi and her journey. Mari answered
“My own journey is separate, but of course I come to compare a little bit, so it’s frustrating. But, you know, not much I can do about that.”
On what basis did they give Mari Osaka a wildcard?
Didn’t they hv authority to give Andreescu a bye? She had insufficient time to rest, practise n adjust to new conditions n v nearly lost
Also what a coincidence for Andreescu to meet Begu (took a set in Indian Wells) now Kenin (last person to beat Andreescu) n Kerber is in that section too
