Mark Philippoussis, a tennis icon of Australia, worries that if Nick Kyrgios doesn’t put in the necessary time and energy to rehab and recover from his knee surgery, Kyrgios’ future may be seriously jeopardized. Kyrgios, who is 28-year-old, had knee surgery in January.
Philippoussis spoke to the Australian Associated Press. “He’s not even close to being fit, and I knew straight away he was in trouble. If he comes back too early, which we have seen, and if he’s not putting in the work physically on that knee to strengthen that joint, unfortunately, I’m not sure how much we’re going to see him.
He continued: “You have to give yourself every opportunity to come back and if you’re a big guy and get a knee issue, you better get it right before you come back because it’s just going to make it worse, you’re going to be out further and your career could be done”.
Kyrgios was expected to make a comeback in Indian Wells after the surgery, which was first hailed as a major success. However, Kyrgios didn’t begin his 2023 campaign until Stuttgart, where he lost in the first round and was overheard worrying about his knee.

Ranked no.37, Nick played his last match on the 13th of June when he capitulated to world no.78 Yibing Wu 7-5 6-3 in the 1st round in Stuttgart (draw).
Currently, during this year the Australian has managed to achieve a composed 0-1 win-loss record.
Kyrgios will compete next in Washington (Citi Open). He will begin to play the tournament from the main draw that will commence on the 31st of July.
