17-year-old Amanda Anisimova impresses with a solid and mature performance in her first round in Miami on Wednesday.
The young American was opposed to Andrea Petkovic that was expected to use her experience to fend off Anisimova (Andrea is 14 years older than Amanda). That didn’t happen.
The match
Amanda was playing excellent tennis from the very beginning. She encountered the first hurdle in the 6th game when she had to save 2 break points (15-40), but that was the end of it as she imposed her superior tennis to conquer 8 of the following 10 games and grab a strong 6-4 5-1 lead. Later, Anisimova failed to serve out the match while leading 5-2, but she conquered the final break soon after to win 6-4 6-3
in just 87 minutes.Amanda will face the world no.19 Anett Kontaveit in the 2nd round. There is no head to head record between them since this will be the first time that they play each other.
Even if the Estonian has a much better rank than the American (Amanda is still world no.73), Anisimova should be the favorite to get to the 3rd round.
