INJURY. Holger Rune explains why he will be unable to compete in Umag.

Holger Rune has been having a rather tough time dealing with his body recently. The Danish sensation was reported to have been ill for four days and struggling with his right wrist and back. However, he still agreed to compete in the Hopman Cup, with rather grim results. Holger was meant to play next week in Umag. However, he sensibly decided to withdraw from the tournament, releasing the following statement:

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to play at the Croatia Open this year as I have issues with my lower back, an injury that prevented me from performing at my usual level this week. Starting from Monday, I will undergo the necessary treatments and then take some rest.”

Now ranked no.6 (career-high), Rune played his last match on the 12th of July when he surrendered to world no.1 Carlos Alcaraz 7-6(3) 6-4 6-4 in the quarter in Wimbledon (draw).

Currently, during this year Holger has a composed 37-13 record. The Dane conquered 1 title in Munich. The Dane reached the final in Monte-Carlo and Rome.

Rune will play next in Umag (Plava Laguna Croatia Open). He will begin to play the tournament from the main draw that will commence on the 24th of July.
