Tsitsipas has a good draw at the Miami Open

Stefanos Tsitsipas is expected to have no tough matches until the 4th round

Stefanos Tsitsipas

Stefanos Tsitsipas took a good pause after breaking in the top10 in Dubai. In fact, even if the Greek sensation went to play the Master ATP1000 in Indian Wells, he crashed out in the opening match to have a couple of weeks of “vacation” in the desert. As also suggested by Naomi Osaka, the Greek had a rather busy schedule in February and he needed to regroup.

Stefanos is now in Florida where he will try to have a good run at the Miami Open where he lost in the 1st round in 2018 to Daniil Medvedev.

Stefanos Tsitsipas’ draw in Miami

Stefanos had a good draw in Miami.

Being seeded no.8, the Greek had a bye in the 1st round. In the second round, he is expected to face the world no.63 Hugo Humbert that is having a good season especially after winning the Cherbourg Challenger in February. However, Tsitsipas shouldn’t have many problems against the Frenchman because of his superior firepower.

In the third round, Stefanos should face the world no. 32 Guido Pella that is a clay court specialist with no much success on hard courts. In 2019 the Argentine won the title in Sao Paulo, and he reached the final in Cordoba, but both tournaments were played on the dirt. Guido has a 2-4 win-loss record on hard courts during this season.

In the 4th round, Stefanos is expected to face either Marin Cilic or Denis Shapovalov. While on paper the Croatian should be the favorite to get to the 4th round, he is having a below-par season with an unflattering 4-3 win-loss record, and he lost 3 of the last 4 matches. Therefore, Tsitsipas should play Denis Shapovalov that has recently defeated Cilic in Indian Wells 6-4 6-2, and he is playing good tennis.

In the quarters, Stefanos is projected to clash against Sascha Zverev that is also having not a great 2019. The German has an 8-3 win-loss record, but once again he failed to go deep in a slam following his defeat in the 4th round in Melbourne. In Febraury, he reached the final in Acapulco, but then he crashed out early in Indian Wells after he lost 6-3 6-1 in the 3rd round at the hands of Jan-Lennard Struff.

In a possible semifinal, Tsitsipas may have a repetition of the Dubai final against his childhood hero Roger Federer.

Here the summary of Stefanos’ projected path in Miami

R1  – Bye
R2  – Humbert
R3  – Pella
R4  – Cilic/Shapovalov
1/4 – Zverev
1/2 – Federer
Fin  – Djokovic
