Amarissa Toth stunned the tennis community with her horrible behavior when facing Shuai Zhang in Budapest.
After a controversial conclusion to her Hungarian Grand Prix match on Tuesday against Amarissa Toth that was centered around a protracted debate with umpire Morgane Lara, Zhang Shuai got an outpouring of support from her fellow tennis players.
Zhang, who has lost her past 13 matches and has been vocal about mental health issues, was back on clay. When Lara confirmed an out call at 5-5, 15-15, She grew enraged.
Two points later, when Toth wiped the mark with her shoe and said, “You are making a problem,” Zhang was even more upset and demanded to see the supervisor. During the subsequent timeout, Zhang ultimately decided to leave the game. Toth, a No. 548-ranked Hungarian wild card, lifted her arms in jubilation as she left the court in tears, which caused Zhang’s WTA peers to criticize her.
The Hungarian player was widely slammed on social media, and many top players criticized her. Maria Sakkari even hinted that Amarissa Toth should be banned from the Tour. Here are some of the tweets.
