Bouchard delighted to be coached by Sumyk

Genie Bouchard will finally be back on court after a strange period. The young Canadian decided not to play the Fed Cup tie against the Czech Republic to spark some controversy at home. Then she “stole” Sam Sumyk from Vika Azarenka, but this partnership didn’t start well as Genie crashed out in the first match in Antwerp to then retire from Dubai and Monterrey citing an arm injury. Now Genie is back to competitions in Indian Wells to share some thoughts.

Genie: Sam has a great resume

“It’s been a great change for me. I went—I wouldn’t say coach less—I had a team for the Australian Open, but I wasn’t sure if that would be a permanent solution. And to start working with Sam [, I think that was a good choice.

He has a great resume, and he’s been with players where I want to go, things I want to achieve. He’s won Grand Slams, his players have been No. 1. To have that kind of knowledge and experience is something I was looking for. I happy to have that right now and we see how it goes. It’s just been a few weeks.

We want to adjust a few little things, but keep building on that game.”

Genie will kick start her Indian Wells against Lucie Hradecka, it might be not easy.

OH YES, SHE IS READY!
